The development of the SRIA for the AELLRI partnership

December 8, 2022

The SCAR Strategic Working Group on Agroecology (SCAR-AE) is the entity responsible for the preparation of the candidate partnership ‘Accelerating farming systems transition: agroecology living labs and research infrastructures’ (AELLRI) and, in particular, for developing the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). SCAR-AE offers a platform for continuous strategic discussion between the Member States (MS), Associated Countries (AC) and the EC, supported in particular by key advising initiatives, among which AE4EU. SCAR-AE prepared a “partnership dossier” in 2021, which can be downloaded here:

https://ec.europa.eu/info/files/european-partnership-accelerating-farming-systems-transition-agro-ecology-living-labs-and-research-infrastructures_en

A SRIA Core Team under SCAR-AE has prepared the first consolidated version of the SRIA between January and June 2022, taking into account inputs from the broader SCAR-AE group and from many relevant stakeholders. In particular, a first workshop was organised on the 29th of April 2022 with more than 100 participants, in order to gather input and views from a wide range of stakeholders at an early stage in the process. An additional workshop was held in July 2022 with other related partnerships’’ representatives and representatives from the Mission “A Soil deal for Europe”.

The SRIA was open for a wider consultation from July 2022 until October 2022 to collect feedbacks on its contents from a broad range of stakeholders of the field, and give the opportunity to contribute to proposed priorities, their relevance and expected impacts. More than 110 inputs from diverse sectors (e.g. education, academic, farming sector, extension services, authorities, industry, NGOs…) but also from individual citizens were received and went through a consolidation phase and a review by SCAR-AE.

This work will finally be presented to respondents to this survey and members and observers of SCAR-AE mid-November 2022. A final draft of the SRIA will be available by the end of 2022, before its formal adoption by a decision-making committee in the frame of the AELLRI partnership (tentative time horizon: early 2024). The SRIA will be the keystone to prepare annual work plans of the partnership, where the concrete activities to implement by the partnership will be described.
